EVEREST FACTS
Everest was formed about 60 million years ago.
Elevation: 8850 metres
Named after: Sir George Everest, in 1865, the British surveyor-general of
India. Sir Everest was the first to record the height and location of the
mountain.
First ascent: May 29,1953 - Sir Edmund Hillary, NZ and Tenzing Norgay, NP.
A normal expedition lasts 60-90 days and is done during the months of
April/May and October/November, depending on conditions.
